Arguing with Yourself

In the Forbes post the author claims:

A government’s sole function is the protection of individual rights; all other functions the modern U.S. government has assumed are usurpations which have required the violation of the very rights the government was established to protect. 

Here’s the preamble to the US Constitution:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

It’s way easier to argue with yourself than to engage with the real world. We expect our government to do more than secure our individual liberties. We, the people, not me, me, me….
